 Army Families Federation (AFF)

What services and support does the AFF offer?

The Army Families Federation is the independent voice of Army families and works hard to improve the quality of life for Army families around the world - on any aspect that is affected by the Army lifestyle.

AFF are often pivotal in achieving improvements for Army families such as changes to Government and military policy and changes to the delivery of how things are provided for families. The AFF does not do this by itself; our role is to highlight problems to the chain of command or service providers, and to work with them and other agencies to improve the support they provide to Service families.
AFF also provides a signposting service to help you find the right person to speak to, as well as providing useful information for Army families through its website and magazine, the AFF Families Journal.

Home Start

What services and support does Home Start offer?

We help to increase the confidence and independence of families by:

  • Visiting families in their own homes to offer support, friendship and practical assistance
  • Reassuring parents that their childcare problems are not unusual or unique
  • Encouraging parents' strengths and emotional well-being for the ultimate benefit of their children
  • Trying to get the fun back into family life

Our volunteers, who have parenting experience themselves, can offer:

  • Precious time for listening and talking
  • Help with the children
  • A break for parents
  • Practical help and reassurance
  • A chance to meet other parents in the same boat
  • Support to use local services and resources

Parents ask for Home-Start's help for all sorts of reasons:

  • They may feel isolated in their community, have no family nearby and be struggling to make friends
  • They may be finding it hard to cope because of their own or a child's physical or mental illness
  • They may have been hit hard by the death of a loved one
  • They may be really struggling the with emotional and physical demands of having twins or triplets - perhaps born into an already large family

SSAFA Forces Help

What services and support does SSAFA Forces Help offer?

SSAFA Forces Help has been serving the Armed Forces and their families for well over a 100 years and our work is as vital today as it has ever been.
Our continually evolving support services are driven by the current needs of the Service community.  They are particularly relevant in today’s high pressure military environment, where our contemporary veterans and serving personnel alike often experience different problems from the soldiers, sailors and airmen of earlier conflicts.  Reservists too, heavily engaged in current operations, have equal call on our services.

SSAFA services

From the provision of Health and Social services, to supporting the ex-Service community; from running a confidential support line, to delivering holidays for children with additional needs. We cover a very broad spectrum of issues as you can see on our website.  We try to bring our solutions to the widest audience possible - anybody whose life has been touched by time in the Armed Forces.

Who we help

If you have a Service connection, then we can offer our support.  It is a matter of pride that we spread our net as widely as possible and we will always try to respond to cases of genuine need, whether they are financial, practical or emotional.
