The Great Hamstini

Capt David Middlemiss, 50, Padre to 3 Mercians in Fallingbostel has written a children’s book ‘The Great Hamstini’ which is the story of a hamster and his adventures. The profits from the sale of the book will go to Help for Heroes.

The book illustrated by wife Laura, 46, is ‘a strange children’s book’, suitable for ages 7 to 87. The idea of the book started in 1994 initially with a few chapters which David’s son and his friends liked and wanted him to write more.

The aim was to have a story that appealed to children but with varying jokes layered into it similar to the Simpson’s where children can still get the story without noticing it also remaining interesting for adults.

Laura who loves all kinds of art said “David had talked about starting this book years ago and having saved it somewhere on his computer.” It was Laura who encouraged David to revisit the book to see if she could play around and add in some illustrations.  The initial thought that the illustrations would be completed within a week was optimistic because as the week progressed it became increasingly clear more illustrations would be required.

David would like to do a second book where Hamstini may go to Hambridge University and Study Genetics.

The book can be purchased directly from David for €10 and all the profits go to Help for Heroes or from Amazon at £11.99 (but Amazon will take 40%). For details contact Hamstini@hotmail.com
