Serving personnel and their families across Bergen-Hohne Garrison received a fantastic boost recently as NAAFI presented HQ 7th Armoured Brigade ‘The Desert Rats’ and Bergen-Hohne Garrison with a welfare cheque representing the Total Non Public Funds contribution for the financial year so far. The sum of €525,043 was presented to Deputy Garrison Commander Colonel Paul Eaton OBE and goes directly back to the military community, allowing local commanders to make decisions on how the money is spent and invested in welfare provision. On receiving the cheque Colonel Eaton commented “We are delighted to receive this very welcome boost to Garrison welfare funds from NAAFI and we will be looking to use it in creative ways to the benefit of our community.”
NAAFI Head of Germany North, Jit Rathod said: “As a not for profit organisation we remain committed to serving the Services and this sum of money is a further indication of our dedication to serving Forces Personnel and their families within the BFG community. I am absolutely delighted to handover this cheque which in turn helps to ensure troops and their families are not disadvantaged by being overseas.”
This year NAAFI celebrates its 90th Birthday having served the Armed Forces since 1920 in conflicts all over the world and Jit was keen to point out that the company’s philosophy for the serving the Services remains unchanged.
He continued: “This year NAAFI celebrates its 90th year serving the Services and it is really satisfying to see such a well loved and historical institute like NAAFI still opening today. Whether it be financial surpluses like our welfare cheques, subsidised pricing on Basic British Essentials, or support within the local community, as well as overseas, our sole purpose remains the same – to support the British Armed Forces and their families wherever they are around the world.”
