A group of local German Dignitaries visited Bergen-Hohne Garrison on 20th May. The group was made up of heads of Federal and State Departments based in and around Celle, and included amongst them the head of the High Security Prison in Celle, the Head of Police, the head of the Federal Employment Agency and the Chief Prosecutor at the regional court in Celle. The local Bundeswehr Garrisons in Celle and Fassberg were also represented, as was the regional Fire School whose training centre is also on the edge of Celle.
After a welcome by Maj Tony Cork representing the Deputy Garrison Commander, the visitors were given a briefing on the history of the Garrison and its current makeup by SLO Mr Hugh Pierson, with emphasis on the infrastructure in station and what building projects are due to be completed over the next 18 months. There then followed a visit to Gloucester School hosted by acting Head teacher Mrs Lana Heath and a trip to the Station Museum followed by a short tour of the rest of camp.
The tour ended with a traditional Curry Supper in the Station Officers’ Mess. The visit was part of an exchange visit programme organised by the group itself, with the aim of increasing understanding between the heads of Federal and State Departments in the region of Celle and meets about 3 times a year.
