Britannia 843 is the Bielefeld lodge of British Freemasons in Germany, and has strong connections with BFG, many members being past or present members of the military community. It is a close to the Gilead Hospitals campus and is very well aware of the tremendous support this hospital gives to the British community.
Early in 2008, it was decided to make the newly opened British Mental Health ward in Gilead IV a beneficiary of their charity effort. A garden had been allocated for the exclusive use of the ward, and to make full use of the potential, a range of garden tools was required - an ideal opportunity for some practical help. A garden can create all sorts of therapeutic activity, from heavy digging, hard pruning, gentle mowing and weeding, sowing and planting or just simply sitting and watching nature at its very best. The right tools can help even the hardest chore become a pleasure as the results are so satisfying. A thousand euros was quickly raised and passed to the local BFGHS team. General Manager Mike Sharp with Military Support WO Alan Newbold visited the local DIY store with truck and chequebook. A bit of self assembly and the result is one very contented ward of patients and staff, with the promise of one very attractive garden. |
