On the 10th February 2009 the Kinder Klinikum at the Gillead Hospital in Bielefeld received a cheque of €1120 towards the purchase of DVD’s, DVD players and other things to help improve the time that children spend there.
The cheque was presented to the Gillead by Mrs Wendy Watson (School Secretary at Haig School), Ryan Mallon and Kayleigh Howarth both Haig School Students. Wendy thought that the Gillead was a great place for the money to go.
‘So many British Forces members and their families have been treated there and treated really well so I though it was about time we gave something back to them.’
This was the first opportunity since the event took place in July 2008 that the money could be given. The money was raised by the production ‘Songs from the musicals’. The event, held at Mansergh Hall was a great success. Performers aged 8 years to 54 years, both military and civilian took part in the grand production with one member travelling from as far away as Paderborn to take part.
These productions are not unusual to Wendy. She spends a great deal of her own time making sure that they go without a hitch and her motivation is simple,
‘I love doing this sort of thing. I love seeing the enjoyment on people’s faces when their on stage, it gives me a great buzz and I know it gives a lot of others the same buzz when they come to the show and they see their families on stage. Raising money for charities and just seeing the children’s happiness, now that is my greatest buzz.’ |
