On Course for Promotion

Troops on exercise in Canada have not missed out on a key promotion course despite being more than 4,500 miles from their base in Paderborn – thanks to the efforts of an Army teacher from 41 Army Education Centre.

Educational and Training Services (ETS) officer Lieutenant Maz Kingston delivered the course to the corporals from The 1st Battalion The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (1PWRR) at the end of the gruelling Exercise Medicine Man in BATUS last month.

Both teacher and pupils were forced to live off their vehicles for more than 3 weeks without returning to the relative comforts of camp before being able to focus on the vital JNCO Command Leadership Management (CLM) course.

The ETS officer said: “It’s good for me to run the course for them as I can relate it to the experience we’ve shared on the training area.

“As the ‘Operational Unit Education Officer’ I deliver education to the front line and this exercise allows me to practice the role I’d expect to do on operations.”

Lt Kingston led her soldier students aboard an iconic yellow school bus at the start of the 3 day promotion course.

The Army’s ETS Branch provides education to serving personnel wherever they are based around the world, whether in barracks or on operations.

41 Army Education Centre provides courses for promotion, personal development and Basic Skills to the soldiers serving within the British Army’s 20th Armoured Brigade.
