1st The Queen’s Dragoon Guards (The Welsh Cavalry) did their bit to return the favour for SSAFA recently by hosting a Big Brew at JB’s in Dempsey Barracks.
With the assistance of Capt Stuart John, the Regimental Welfare Officer, the Wives Committee drummed up support from across the whole of the Regimental Family. Suffice to say there was no shortage of cakes lovingly baked and willingly handed over to help this great event.
After a fresh morning start, tables were set up with all the tasty delights on offer. Soldiers and family were treated to all sorts of cakes, one of note was a fruit loaf laced with Penderyn Single Malt Whiskey all the way from the Welsh distillery - much to the surprise of the RSM whose whiskey it was.
Capt Stuart John said the day was a huge success and that the money raised totalled €658.20 which will be handed over to SSAFA.
He said: “On behalf of the Regiment a big thanks goes to all the wives who helped out by baking cakes and of course a special thanks goes to the ladies that helped out on the day by manning the stall and selling raffle tickets for the cake baked by the QDG Chefs”
