Her Majesty’s Ambassador’s Community Relations Prize

HQ 20th Armoured Brigade & Paderborn Garrison have been honoured for their contribution to Anglo-German and community relations with the award of HM Ambassador’s Community Relations Prize.

The award, in recognition of their achievements across a whole range of activities from November 2006 to October 2007, was presented by HM Ambassador, Sir Michael Arthur, during a visit to HQ Paderborn Garrison today.

The award was accepted on behalf of the Garrison and Brigade by Col Bertie Polley, Deputy Garrison Commander.

The portfolio of events highlighted in the submission to HM Ambassador involved the wider British community interacting on a social, sporting or professional level with the Host Nation. The events ranged from the Britisches Festival involving over 15,000 people to smaller social acitivities such as the Centenary Scout Camp held in Sennelager.

In his speech congratulating the award winners, Sir Michael Arthur said:  “Paderborn Garrison and 20th Armoured Brigade have demonstrated some fantastic examples of community relations, and the award of this prize pays tribute to those efforts. In addition, The Freedom of the City of Paderborn, previously awarded to 20th Armoured Brigade, is a potent symbol of the close relationship with the city, which I am certain will endure for very many years. I take my hat off to you all”.

Thanking HM Ambassador for the Award, Colonel Polley said:

“It is a great honour to receive this Award on behalf of the Brigade and Garrison, and I must pay tribute to the outstanding efforts of so many of my colleagues, who have done so much to support activities in the local community.  I am delighted that our efforts have been recognised in this way”.
