Soldiers serving with A Company, 1st Battalion the Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment (A Coy 1PWRR) were amongst the first troops from 20 Armd Bde and the first from the Battalion to return home from Op TELIC 13. Around 100 soldiers were given a great welcome by families on Tuesday 7th April who had assembled at the Battalion welfare centre, the Tiger's Den to greet them. A Coy deployed to Iraq in late November and have for the past 5 months been operating in the Basra area as part of the 5 Rifles Battle Group, during the tour of duty the Coy have undertaken a wide range of tasks in the south of the country.
Officer Commanding Maj Andy Flay said that the tour had been a great success for the Coy, particularly for the younger members who had grown up and matured greatly during the past months. Andy's wife Natalie and their 2 children were their to meet him, when asked on his thoughts on arriving home Andy said that he was looking forward greatly to spending some time at home with his young children, the youngest who had been born just as the Coy were being deployed. The remainder of the Bn largely those of C Coy who will remain in theatre until their task is completed and those HQ and QM staff attached to 1 Yorkshire Regiment will return later in the year. |
