The Paderborn/Sennelager ladies have just completed the two day preparation for parenthood classes. This was a huge success with 33 individuals attending. It was lovely to see first time and also second time Mums attending.
The morning started with a quick reality check completing the 24 hour clock. This is to show parents to be how busy they will be with a baby and how their lives are going to change. The 24 hour clock went down well and parents very quickly identifying that sleep deprivation may be an issue when they have a baby. So are now aware that when they have they baby, when the baby is sleeping so must they. Forget the housework and cooking!

The nappy demonstration and discussing how to make up feeds was well received. After having a well earned break, which gave individuals the time to get to know other parents to be we discussed how to identify labour and when to go to hospital. In this we included the cultural differences maybe experienced in a German hospital. The group participated wonderfully with the men showing a massive amount of knowledge. Finally with child birth in mind we discussed at great length which pain relief is available in the local German hospital and the pros and cons of particular choices.
At all times ladies and partners were welcomed to ask questions, which came hard and fast and finally to end the program me the group completed a quiz on things that had been discussed during the day.

It was a complete success from the feedback received and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents to be for attending the sessions, allowing there photo to be published and to wish them every happiness with their new babies.
The next preparation for parenthood will take place on the 21 and 22nd September at 09:30 - 15:30 at the pink rooms in Normandy BKS. Unit transport is available. No registration needed, just turn up on the day. For any further information contact the midwives office at Normandy BKS.
