On a site where the roar of Tornado jets is still a recent memory, there remains nothing more than the sound of golf clubs on balls, calls of ‘Fore’ and tuneful birdsong. West Rhine Golf Club is situated at Javelin Barracks, Elmpt, the former home of RAF Brüggen, and is the best golf courses in British Forces Germany.
Just alongside the Dutch border near Roermond, the Club boasts an 18 hole course in delightful countryside, where the recent RAF base and current home to 1 Signal Brigade has kept buildings and industry at bay. Formerly an RAF club, it dates back to the ‘50s.
The Club has a busy programme of competitions and coaching courses, and a healthy membership of BFG and some local players, but is always on the lookout for new members, with plenty of spare capacity for people wanting to pursue their sport or give it a try for the first time.
This summer’s season of activities has been as busy as ever, with numerous competitions and events. This year the club has worked hard at developing a programme for young players. Training for youngsters is available on Thursday evenings between 1730 – 1930, comprising an hour of Professional instruction and a three hole competition. |
