The Teams

All the teams have the aim of providing grass roots Rugby but endeavour to do this with a smile on our faces.

UNDER 6’s
- This is where the Rugby Journey begins! The Under 6’s is really an introduction to Rugby and they concentrate on really low level basic skills  getting used to running around with a Rugby Ball as well as communicating and working all together as part of a team.  They do not do contact at this age and start to learn ‘Tag Rugby’ but most of all have great fun.

UNDER 8’s
- The Under 8’s play Tag rugby which is a fast-moving non-contact game suitable for boys and girls to play together.  An important feature of the training at this age is to develop passing, catching and spatial awareness.  This gives a fantastic foundation to the game.

UNDER 10’s - They are a little more constructed and the introduction full contact to the children. The training is designed to help players develop their rugby skills as their physical ability develops, making the game as simple and safe as possible for all the children. Key areas the children will learn are to tackle, ruck and maul safely. Other areas of the game that will be introduced are unopposed mini scrums, line outs. At the training sessions and competitive matches we focus on enjoyment and achievement.

UNDER 12’s
– Now were beginning to play at a higher standard with the introduction of contested scrum and line outs. Players start to be introduced to different positions. Still keeping with the clubs policy of children and fun first: winning second.

UNDER 14’s
– This is a natural progression from Under 12’s rugby, this age group we are looking to hone their individual skills. The introduction of the hand off to their game. The children also have a physical introduction and development of core stability. Keeping the team spirit and mutual respect for other players and coaches at the heart of training.

UNDER 16’s – The last age group catered for, the lads are trying to perfect there skill levels before the move to colt rugby. Some of these young people are also able to go onto coaching the younger children at the club.
