British Forces Early Years Service (BFEYS) is a Tri-Service Accredited Organisation for the regulation of childcare provision conducted overseas on military premises or in Service Family Accommodation, in North West Europe.
BFEYS aims to promote, and contributes to, the improved quality and standards of care and education through independent regulation of early years childcare and childminding provision in support of entitled Service and civilian personnel and their families.
In a similar way to Ofsted, the regulation of childcare and childminding provision is to English standards which aim to protect children and ensure their safety and well being, and to reassure parents their children are well looked after. The regulatory functions consist of 4 main aspects:
- Registration of new childcare and childminding provision to show they are deemed qualified to take children.
- Inspection of registered childcare and childminding provision to ensure a regular check of their work.
- Investigation of complaints against registered or unregistered childcare or childminding.
- Enforcement action where requirements are not met.
Registration by BFEYS will allow providers to demonstrate to parents that essential standards have been met. It also allows the childcare to become qualifying childcare for the purpose of Working Tax Credit, further information can be found at www.hmrc.gov.uk, and employer childcare voucher schemes, such as the Armed Forces Childcare Scheme administered through Sodexho, further information can be found at www.MODchildcare.co.uk
BFEYS does not regulate educational facilities which are provided by Service Children’s Education; school reports can be viewed on the Ofsted website by
