Courses

41 Army Education Centre is situated on Alanbrooke Barracks in Paderborn, BFPO 22.

They offer a range of courses including German language courses (weekend crash courses, week long courses and evening courses) throughout the Garrison. For recreational courses, there are crafts courses (knitting and crochet), Guitar (at various levels), fitness and photography.

There are also Non-PCDL courses run at 41 AEC including Criminology and A Guide to UK Employment & Consumer Law (military personnel are not exempt from these course fees).

Please note: All IT courses are now done via the E-Learning Centre and not 41 AEC.

Courses are available for Dependants, Military Personnel and Entitled Civilians.

Tutors

Anyone who would like to become a tutor should contact the AEC as they are always seeking tutors, for Detmold, Paderborn, Sennelager, Hameln and Bad Lippspringe. If you have an idea for a course, you should contact the PCDL Coordinator who may be able to arrange/advertise for a tutor.

Enrolment

You can enrol at 41 AEC during normal office hours (Monday to Thursday: 8am to 4:30pm and Fridays: 8am to 1pm)
from Monday 16th January 2012.

Please note: A minimum of 8 students is required for most courses, 10 for vocational courses. If these numbers are not achieved the course cannot run due to policy.

Fees and Refunds

All PCDL Courses are free for military personnel; for dependants, they offer a 25% refund on all courses that are completed. Please see current course brochures for prices, or contact 41 AEC.

Childcare Provisions

Please note that unless specified, children are not permitted to attend classes.  

For any student who requires childcare facilities, you can contact Army Welfare Services (AWS) reception on Civ 05254 982 4340 or Mil Ext 79 4340 who can provide information on childminding facilities within the Garrison.

You may also wish to contact local Daycare Settings who may be able to provide assistance; please note, 41 AEC have no affiliation with these services and therefore cannot guarantee any spaces for childcare will be available for those wishing to attend courses provided by 41 AEC.

Libraries

41 AEC oversees the Garrison libraries, which offer a wide selection of books as well as information on language courses, and story telling for younger children. Service Children's Education is an Agency of the MOD and is dedicated to the education of the children of Her Majesty's Armed Forces, MOD Personnel and sponsored organisations stationed overseas.

Children’s University is a nationally recognised scheme from the UK which aims to promote life chances for children through providing high quality, out of school hours activities for children aged 7-14.  The Children’s University (CU) promotes the journey to independent learning and has been brought to British Forces Germany by Service Children’s Education.

Childcare
Qualifications

Do you currently work in a childcare setting or would you be interested in working in one? If so, applications are being sought from all practitioners who work a minimum of 8 hours per week, either paid or voluntarily, in a childcare setting. It is now a requirement that all settings, here and in the UK, have at least 50% of staff qualified.

Student Finance england
Higher Education Students

If you’re going into higher education, you can apply for financial support from the government through Student Finance England. The main sources of help available are grants and bursaries which you don’t pay back, and loans which you do.
