WEWELSBURG is Germany's only triangular castle.
It was built between 1603 and 1609 in the Weser Renaissance style as a secondary residence for the Paderborn prince bishops high above the Almetal on a mountain spur close to the city of Buren in the district of Paderborn.
There are two areas of interest at the castle:

Historical Museum of the Prince Bishopric of Paderborn
This is located in the southern and eastern wings of the castle.
It is here that you can discover the story of the Paderborn countryside from the beginning of the settlement.

Memorial to Wewelsburg's years of terror 1933-1945
The memorial to Wewelsburg during the years 1933-1945 is located in the former SS guard house at the castle forecourt. The permanent exhibition "ideology and terror of the SS" illustrates the local history of the Schutzstaffel in Wewelsburg and the local concentration camp.

There are also other regular exhibitions and the west wing of the castle is a Youth Hostel ((0049) 2955 6155)
