Community support provides learning and personal development
opportunities through a range of planned programmes, activities
and experiences for military personnel and their families. We
support or supervise activities that may be social, educational
or recreational. All will be responsive to need, locally accessible,
affordable and of good quality. Each garrison has a community
support element co-ordinated within its AWS team. Direct provision
is made for the service community by professional qualified and
trained community support workers, or by locally trained and
experienced staff. This provision is likely to include youth
and/or community centres, after school provision, special projects
and holiday provision. In addition, we provide community support
to the local military community and chain of command. The level
of support reflects local needs, as circumstances in each garrison,
station and unit are different. In making youth provision, AWS
community support operates within the policy of British Forces
Youth Service
