British Forces Social Work Service

“We can be called at any time of the day or night and the children can stay for anything from 24 hours to a few months. Sometimes it may be that a parent needs support whilst their spouse is on operational tour, or that they are having to attend to a sick sibling or perhaps are unwell themselves. I find it hugely rewarding keeping the children happy and secure until their return home. I think some of the children come to appreciate that they can actually talk to us and that we will listen to their concerns”.

SSAFA Volunteers Week

Are you understanding, flexible, tolerant? Do you have room in your home to care for children when their parents are unable to do so? British Forces Social Work Service currently need foster carers in all areas of BFG.

Foster carers provide stability, encouragement and a loving home to children who are temporarily unable to live with their own families.

Foster carers are selected according to where they live, their availability and their experience. If selected, the fostering assessment can take up to six months before the family are approved. Once approved their name is added to the BFSWS register of approved foster carers. Children aged from 0-16 years can stay with the foster carers, who can be called at any time of the day or night, for anything from 24 hours to a few months.

If you feel that you could be a foster carer, please call Kate Heffernan on 05221 178 366. You don’t need to be married and you don’t need a big house – just room in your life to help a vulnerable child get through a crisis. Training and financial support is provided.

SSAFA Forces Help are contracted to provide a statutory foster care service in BFG and this is delivered by BFSWS.
