Forget-Me-Not

Whilst we primarily deal with miscarriage and stillbirth, we can also offer help to those who loose a child in the first few months due to cot death. I am keen to establish a support group in JHQ and would like to hear from people who have experienced a similar loss who would be willing to volunteer their time to helping others in the same situation”.

Irene Wilcox, Midwife, JHQ

SSAFA Volunteers Week

Whilst most pregnancies are problem-free, it is a sad fact that a small percentage of them will experience complications that result in miscarriage or stillbirth. It is estimated that around 1 in 4 of all pregnancies ends in miscarriage and every year in the UK around 9,000 babies die before birth or shortly afterwards.

‘Forget-Me-Not’ is an organisation specifically for those facing the trauma of miscarriage, stillbirth or the loss of a baby.

Every quarter, midwives from each of the regions in BFG meet to discuss new initiatives and share information. With links to The Miscarriage Association, Child Bereavement Trust and Stillbirth and Neonatal Deaths (Sands), ‘Forget-Me-Not’ is able to facilitate the flow of up-to-date information to those in need and can also put parents in touch with a bereavement counsellor – either in person or via the telephone.

Midwife Irene Wilcox is keen to establish a support group in JHQ and would like to hear from people who have experienced a similar loss who would be willing to volunteer their time to helping others in the same situation. It is hoped that some volunteers would even go on to attend a training course that would allow them to able to lead the support groups.

If you would like to know more about the support available in your area, please contact you local midwife (details below). For those based in JHQ, Irene Wilcox can be contacted on JHQ Mil: 2641 or Civil: 02161 472 2641
