A very friendly family run site just outside the village of Müden, about a 20 min drive from Hohne camp, just far enough away when you need a break but not to much of a drive. The pitches are on well drained grass with most pitches situated in the unspoilt woodland, an ideal place if you want peace and quiet, long walks or cycle rides. Power points and water point on all pitches, clean showers and toilet facilities. A very nice bar / restaurant run by the owners, always a warm and welcoming atmosphere, in the warmer weather there is a covered seating area outside the bar where you can sit with a cold beer while you watch the world go bye. A five min’ cycle ride into the village of Müden, well known to those at Hohne and Bergen, for its cream cakes. maybe not the most modern site but well worth a visit, infact we have already booked our next stay. |

Grounds: sandy
Location: Although situated in the middle of a wooded area, it lies within easy access to both Potsdam and Berlin as it offers free transport on demand to the nearest tram/bus station. The site is close to the lake.
Toilets: Very clean. Underfloor heating in washrooms, unlimited hot water. Environmentally friendly grounds maintenance, e.g. ground water recycled for use in flushing toilets.
Facilities: This self styled “royal” campsite is certainly on the luxury end of the scale where campsites are concerned. It offers a variety of water sports facilities. You can rent boats, canoes etc. on the spot. Bikes can be hired.
Children’s playground, also open air chess, table tennis, billiards and table football. Large washing up and cooking area, both gas and microwave. There is a restaurant on site, as well as a self service shop, hairdresser and sauna. Even dog sitting is on offer!!
Staff friendly and helpful.
A stay in this site would be a gentle introduction to camping for someone who may be wary of doing without home comforts. However it must be also be said that it is pricey.

Ground: Clearly laid out paths leading to grassy areas for pitching tents / caravans. The campsite is open all the year round and can take up to 400 tents/caravans.
Location: It is within easy walking distance of the small Harz town of Wolfshagen which lies between two lakes. It is situated close to a heated open air pool. The surrounding area is a nature reserve so it is ideal for walks. You won’t find speedboats or waterskiing on the lakes, but lots of butterflies and wild raspberries growing along the well marked paths (in season). The larger town of Goslar is only some eight kilometres away.
Toilets: The toilets and showers are clean. There’s no shortage of hot water and you do not need to get a token to use the showers.
Facilities: This campsite has a small restaurant and shop for the basics. The washing up room also has a washing machine and dryers. There is a children’s playground, as well as an open air table tennis table, chess and Ludo table too. You will need to bring your own rackets, chess set etc though.
However it does not have is an indoor cooking area. What they could do with is somewhere sheltered where campers can bring in their own stoves etc to cook during rainy spells.

Campingplatz am Schierker Stern, Harz
Campingplatz am Schierker Stern
38879 Schierke (Harz)
Tel: 039455 58817 or 0173 3701270
Fax: 039455 58818
Grounds: Not particularly large. There is a grassy patch for tents. The area for caravans and dormobiles is gravelly. Electricity points and outdoor water pipes on site.
Location: This campsite is within easy walking distance of the town of Schierke. From there it is also a short walk to the Schierke steam train stop along the Brocken – Wernigerode route. It is in a strategic situation for trekking or skiing in this part of the Harz mountain range. There are several viewpoints along the paths with some superb scenery, especially in autumn.
Facilities: There is a central block that houses toilets, showers, kitchen and dining/living hall. When you check in at reception you are given a key to the block (€10 – refundable). You are expected to change into clogs when you are using the indoor facilities. The owners provide several pairs in the corridor as you go in, for campers to use. The sanitary amenities are clean, with unlimited hot water and no extra charge for showers. The kitchen / dining / living area is fairly large, and well equipped, with cookers, tables, a fridge, kettles as well as a small table top freezer. There is also a large TV set and radio/cassette player for public use. The reception office has a small shop where you can order fresh breakfast rolls for the morning, to be collected from 08.00.
One unusual feature about this campsite is that the family who runs it also keeps huskies in a large enclosure behind the camping area. They are a big attraction, especially among children.
