This service is to ensure that we can keep the Münster community up to date with forthcoming events and opportunities as quickly as possible.

Münster is the lively capital of Westphalia ; the city itself is some 1200 years old, although it is a young people's city with some 55,000 students. There are approximately 280,000 people inhabiting Münster. The highlights of its history include the Westphalian Peace Treaty of 1648 with its first European Peace Treaty.

The old town is famous for its unique museums and high quality shopping. Although Münster was practically levelled during the Second World War, many historic buildings still exist or have been faithfully restored. This applies noticeably to the 14 th century “Rathaus”, or town hall, which has one of the finest Gothic facades in Germany and the “Dom”, or cathedral, which is the largest in Westphalia .

Encircling the old town is an attractive tree lined promenade, well worth a visit as it shows both the old and new parts of the city. Münster boasts a wide range of activities including culture, art and entertainment to suit all tastes. There are plenty of things for the kids too, ranging from swimming pools to indoor play areas. HIVE in Münster

Munster has two HIVEs serving the community, Münster West HIVE at Oxford Bks and Münster South HIVE at York Bks.

Your HIVE welcomes everyone whether you are married, single, in the Services, a dependant or UK Based Civilian please do call in. As well as the usual HIVE information on Benefits, Tax, Education etc. we also have a lot of information on things to see and do in and around Munster .

Schools

School children from Years 7 to 11 go to Kings School in Gutersloh . Children are bussed in on a Monday morning and return on Friday evening. Years 1 to 6 go to Oxford School , Oxford Bks. Children are bussed in daily from outlying regions. The average class size is approximately 25 at the present. For further information please contact Oxford School on 0251 9272199 or view their website on Oxford school

Oxford Bks

Oxford Bks is situated to the West side of Munster , Oxford School , Small NAAFI, Library and ILC etc.

1ST BATTALION THE YORKSHIRE REGIMENT

(PRINCE OF WALES'S OWN) are currently the resident Battalion.

York Bks

York bks is situated to the South of Munster. Facilities include, York Cinema, Main NAAFI, Youth Club, Library and Education Centre, Football pitches etc.

8 Tpt Regt and 1 Med Regt are currently resident in York Bks.
