Our School is an integral part of the SHAPE International School (SIS) and is situated on a large campus made up of 11 national sections with some 2,500 students overall. Some sections cater for both elementary (primary) and secondary age pupils but the British Section take only those children of primary school age (three to eleven).
The British section follows the British national curriculum and associated national tests. It is also subject to Ofsted inspections by HMI. The school was last inspected in November 2010 and was described in the resulting report as being “an outstanding school”.
The British section is also responsible for the education of three year olds and operates a Foundation stage for FS1 and FS2 children within the International Kindergarten of SIS. This is a purpose built facility for young children and is situated on the SIS site approximately 300m from the British section main building.

The SHAPE Healthcare Facility offers a multitude of services, all designed to provide the SHAPE community with the finest outpatient medical and dental care possible. The UK outpatient clinic has it’s own policies and operating procedures and regular patrons should enquire at their individual clinic for any updated information.
The dental clinic at SHAPE is comprised of ten representatives from eight countries, who provide care primarily to active duty members. Family members and all other care is offered on a space availability basis, depending on the rules for each nation.

Service Family Accommodation (SFA):
There are some marked differences between the housing arrangements you may be used to in the UK/BFG and Belgium, the housing stock consists of individual hirings and not MQ’s, Hirings are owned by Belgian landlords (LL) or companies and not the MOD. The Defence Estates (DE) Agency, which is located at Emblem near Antwerp, are the legal tenants of all hirings on behalf of the MOD.
All hirings are within a reasonable traveling distance to SHAPE.
The Station Staff Office (SSO) role covers many areas but primarily they are here to ensure that, within reason and authorized entitlement, your housing needs are met and that your stay in Belgium is as trouble free as possible.
