Major General Mungo Melvin hands over Command to Major General Nick Caplin in Stylish Departure from HQ UKSC

Staff at HQ United Kingdom Support Command today bade farewell to outgoing GOC, Major General Mungo Melvin in dramatic style.

After a three year tour, Major General Melvin today handed over command to his successor, Major General Nick Caplin.  In recognition of his Royal Engineers background he was driven out of JHQ on the back of a BR90 Bridge Carrier Engineer Vehicle.

After a morning of rain the sun broke through just in time as a crowd of HQ well-wishers turned out to cheer the General on his way.  He now moves on to a new post as Senior Army Member at the Royal College of Defence Studies in London.

Prior to jumping aboard, Major General Melvin said “My thanks to you all for supporting me and my wife Sigi over the last three years.  I know you will be equally supportive to Major General Caplin.  I’m confident that you will sustain your energy on behalf of the Command, both in Germany and more widely across Europe over the forthcoming years”.

Major General Caplin, was first commissioned into the Army Air Corps in 1980, initially serving as a helicopter pilot  His most recent post was as Kosovo Protection Corps Coordinator.  He is married with two children.
