Calling All Veterans............

HQ UKSC(G) are keen for any British Military Veterans who have chosen to live in Germany  to get in touch with them.

There are estimated to be about 5 million Veterans of the Armed Forces, most of whom reside in the UK.  However, a significant number are known to have settled in Germany and it is this community that HQ UKSC(G) wish to hear from.  Most, if not all, Veterans will have settled and integrated fully into German society but some may wish to remain in contact with the military community either to maintain hobbies and interests or because they need continued support and information whilst settling down.

In order to reach out to all Armed Forces Veterans in Germany, a new webpage has been launched on bfgnet where Veterans can find links to various support organisations and agencies as well as a simple form which they are requested to fill out if they would like to register their details with G1 HQ UKSC(G). It can be found at www.bfgnet.de/BFGVets.html. The new webpage also has links to numerous organisations and agencies who can potentially offer help and advice.  In particular the Career Transition Partnership based in Herford have an Employment Consultant who has recently been employed especially to help those Veterans who left the Services more than 2 years ago.  Anne can be contacted on 05221 9953675.

The Veterans’ initiative falls in line with an increased government commitment towards Armed Forces Veterans reflected by the appointment of the Veterans’ minister, Kevan Jones MP and as outlined in the National Recognition of our Armed Forces paper and the Service Personnel Command paper.

Colonel Stuart Hodges, Chief G1 HQ UKSC(G) says:  “ In the first instance the new web page is all about getting Veterans to give us their contact details and to indicate their interest in this initiative.  Thereafter we can keep them informed of developments and provide links to useful support organisations.  Potentially, this interaction could be of significant mutual benefit.”

For more information, Veterans may also contact : SO2 Community Support (Agencies) , G1 Branch, HQ United Kingdom Support Command (Germany), Wellington Road 1, 41179 Mönchengladbach.
