A celebration of mathematics took place recently at Haig School, as students took part in World Maths Day, with a range of challenging and practical maths tasks.
Kristy Ashford, subject leader and Year 6 teacher organised the event, she said: “The computer suites were used for mental maths challenges with children competing against children of the same age from over two hundred different countries.
“Over 57,000 questions were correctly answered by the end of the school day.”
Outside a money and measure challenge kept learners busy and one highlight of the day was the loan of an AS90 gun to challenge children to solve problems involving angles and turns.
Miss Claire Beazley, lower school Deputy Headteacher said: “Teachers are good at giving children active learning opportunities and presenting learning in an engaging way.
“This was demonstrated especially well today by children supporting each other to apply their mathematical skills and knowledge across the curriculum.”
Haig School would like to thank 26 Regt RA and Sgt Stanley for their contribution to this event.
